The shower in the caravan has long passed it's time and the hose and wooden palette serve as a substitute. The two pots on the left are the designated drinking and resting areas for the bees and bumble bees who revive here in the heat. Barry is a lover of all animals except for the 'nasties' that sometimes visit the caravan.

Barry is an avid and impulsive story teller - maybe the best I know. He tells a wide range of stories; from when he was at war in Malaysia fighting against the communists to historical stories about Churchill, Montgomery or Thatcher. Here he's also telling a story.

The pictures in the caravan are relics of his life and are of profound sentimental value to him. The images on the left are of Vicar's Bottom in Buckinghamshire where he lived with his first family.

This is Barry, my father who lives in a caravan in the Cypriot desert. He's 88 years old and lives in the caravan that he bought more than 30 years ago for the family to travel in. After selling the boat which was our other home he stayed here. He feels that due his financial constraints this is the best choice.

The light in the caravan is difficult to catch - it's ideal only very early in the morning. This is taken from my bunk bed and is another lecture from Barry on how to live life.

left - Montgomery, centre top - Churchill, centre middle - Me, centre bottom - his father
